BRicK Partners’ Robin and Beth were honored to serve as contributing authors on A New Deal for Housing Justice: A Housing Playbook for the New Administration, which was handed to President Biden’s administration in January 2021. The Playbook aimed to reframe the federal role in housing with a focus on racial equity and opportunity. This effort was co-chaired by the Honorable Julian Castro, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Maria Torres-Springer, Vice President of US Programs at the Ford Foundation, and Dorian Warren, President of Community Change, and it surfaced its policy recommendations from grassroots public input, stakeholder interviews, and its authors’ experiences in the public, private, non-profit, and philanthropic sectors. These recommendations, more than 110 in all, were designed to focus primarily on actions that could be implemented within the first 200 days of the new administration.
Many of the recommendations in the playbook informed President Biden’s January 26 Memorandum on Redressing Our Nation’s and the Federal Government’s History of Discriminatory Housing Practices and Policies. BRicK Partners is excited to continue the work of bringing the ideas presented in the New Deal for Housing Justice to fruition.
